Like other churches, Grace City Church passionately desires to be a great church. The nature of our great God and the vast needs of our community demand that we strive for nothing less than the pursuit of greatness.

Therefore, our model is not any successful 21st century church, but rather the original church. We don’t run from seminar to seminar looking for answers. We run to Acts 2 (the church of Jerusalem) and Acts 11 &13 (the church of Antioch) for our model.  The Jerusalem church filled its city with the teachings of Jesus and scholars estimate that they reached half of the city’s population of over 100,000 people. The Antioch church displayed beautiful diversity and sent out the first intentional missionaries.

What is evident in the DNA of both churches is that a great church is the result of great commitment. When the DNA of the Jerusalem church was summarized by Luke, the key concept was commitment. And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to the prayersActs 2:42

This weekend we held our first membership seminar and challenged the attenders to dedicate themselves to the goal of seeing “Sin City” transformed into “Grace” City by living out the commitments displayed by the original church.  Sixty people, many of whom are new believers and represent a variety of ethnicities and ages responded to the challenge and signed a covenant of membership. As well, one young man was saved and five committed to Christian baptism.  The new members were publicly commissioned on Sunday as missionaries to the city of Las Vegas.
